I think Dereks death was necessary for the shows growth and new storylines.
I disagree. Dereks death was a huge loss to the show and the characters potential storylines were cut short. Killing off main characters for shock value isnt always the best way to drive the plot forward. There could have been other ways to develop new storylines without resorting to such drastic measures.

I respectfully disagree. Dereks death felt forced and unnecessary, leaving a significant void in the show. Evolution doesnt always require drastic measures like killing off beloved characters. There were plenty of other ways to drive the story forward without sacrificing such a key figure.
